Hong Kong Congee, Noodles, Rice and Rice Noodles

Hong Kong’s rich and colourful culinary history is intrinsically linked with the four main staple dishes. These are congee, noodles, rice and rice noodles. Although these dishes may appear plain on their own, they act as an artist’s canvas on which chefs use a palette of delectable tastes to create works of art loved by all that try them.

1. Congee

A congee meal served hot and soft brings satisfaction and renews your energy. While it has always been seen of a kind of healthy breakfast that starts of f one’s day, Hong Kongers have made it into a major meal in itself with a variety meal of tasty ingredients that they eat around the clock, through out the year. Congee is commonly called “Rice Porridge” in Mainland China. However, in means more than that in Guangdong Province. Especially for people in Hong Kong, both the choice of ingredients and the cooking method of boiling congee involve hard work. “Boiling” in Cantonese refers to putting fresh raw ingredients into the hot and continuously boiling plain congee, their flavours enhancing the soft-textured congee. With just a sip, its warmth creeps through your body.

2. Noodles

Noodles are one of the staple food in Hong Kong. The city’s love affair with noodles can be gleaned from the stacks of instant noodles cups in home and the noodle shop found on every street corner. Whether you are having Dandan, cart noodles, or stir-fried noodles, you can be sure that Hong Kong meets your needs.

3. Rice

As the “Culinary Capital of Asia”, you can find all kinds of great food in Hong Kong. But like most Asians, Hong Kongers grew up with rice as an integral part of their staple diet.

Rice in itself is a basic and simple food item. However, a simple bowl of rice brings out the flavors of many wonderful dishes. Rice dish is the varieties of  fried rice, rice topping with barbecued meats and rice cooked in lotus leaves- food stuffs greatly adored by foodies the world over.

4. Rice Noodles

Rice Noodles are like an artist’s blank canvas that acts as the foundation of may great dishes. Rice Noodles versatility flexibility closely mirror the characteristic of Hong Kong people’s successfully adapt to change.
